Conflict of Interest

Conflicts of interest occur when URI employees have outside interests
that may lead them to influence University decisions in ways that could
result in personal gain or financial benefit. Situations that may lead
to conflicts of interest are not uncommon at universities, especially
with university-industry collaborations. Their existence does not
necessarily constitute wrongdoing. In most cases, conflicts of interest
can be resolved by a process involving disclosure, review, management
and monitoring.

The University of Rhode Island Policy on Conflicts of Interest provides
guidelines for identifying potential conflicts and procedures for
reviewing and managing conflicts, with the goal of protecting the
integrity and objectivity of the University community.
