Middle & High School Engineering Program

On March 22nd the Middle School Engineering Challenge will take place. The goal will be designing, building, and testing a Crane and MagLev train. Then, on April 5th the High School Engineering Challenge with take place. Here, students will work on designing, building, and testing a cooling system for a model submarine. These challenges will take place in the Memorial Union Ballroom. If anyone needs more information about the challenges you can email jobasel@uri.edu or cenglander@uri.edu .

Challenge Mentor Signup

We are looking for corporate and alumni mentors to help students during our upcoming middle & high school challenges. The job of these mentors is to act as a sounding board for the students. This is a call to all corporate sponsors and other SMILE supporters to sign up to be mentors for our exctiting annual engineering challenges. Below is a form to sign up, please take the time to fill it out.

SMILE Scholarship Info

SMILE awards a $500 scholarship annually to up to six high school seniors who have been in SMILE for 3+ years. The criteria and application form can be viewed via the link below. Principals, we would appreciate it if you would share this sheet with guidance counselors.
