The URI Department of Sociology and Anthropology is committed to individual, personalized consultation with each of our majors and with any students considering one of our department’s three degree programs.

Once students have entered into our program, they are assigned a faculty advisor. Although most students keep their initial advisors, some change advisors as their interests or degree programs change. Students who wish to change advisors should check with the department chair.

Faculty membersoc-anthadvisingphotocroppeds are available before or after class and during office hours, or even for an impromptu meeting while passing in the hallways. However, we urge our students to make time to see their advisor on a regular basis. We believe ongoing contact between student and advisor adds to the advisor’s personal knowledge of the student’s interests, which can make a student’s time at the URI more rewarding.

Various forms, including those for off-campus study and courses taken at other institutions, change of major, intent to graduate, among others, can be found on the College of Arts and Sciences site.
