PSC 482: Politics of Authoritarianism

In this class, students will use a political science approach to study the politics of authoritarianism and its different forms around the world. The goal is to understand causes of authoritarianism, its duration, and breakdown around the globe. Students will study the strategies governments use to maintain power and discuss a broad range of literature on durability of authoritarian rule including militarism, political economy, social control, etc. Students will develop an original research project over the course of the class.
