TD Alum Finds And Presides Over Law Enforcement Association

The Talent Development Program would like to highlight alum and retired Rhode Island State Police Trooper, John A’Vant who is now the president of the new organization called the Rhode Island Guardian Association. This new organization purpose is to promote issues and concerns of minority law enforcement officers in Rhode Island. They provide advocacy for issues impacting service and
professional standing of officers of color and those in the criminal justice field.
 
John stated, our organization has been formed to address issues of concern for Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, Asian and Native American law enforcement personnel across the state, and seeks to enhance the relationships between police and the community,” He also stated, “Our goal is to provide advocacy for issues that impact the service and professional standing of minority law enforcement personnel, and to provide a more positive exposure to police officers in the
community we serve.” John was the highest ranking Black member of the state police before retiring.
