Editing the Left Navigation Menu

Your initial menu should have already been created for you. To see where it was created, navigate to Appearance-> Menus. The primary department navigation menu is called “Primary Department Navigation”. Your Home page should already have been added to the menu. If you haven’t added any other pages yet, you may wish to wait to do this step until you’ve created more content.

There are two main options you will use here: Custom Links, and Pages.

Editing Left Navigation Menu

To create a menu item to link to a page you’ve already created on your site, simply click the checkbox for that page in the Pages box at left. Then click Add to Menu. The link will be added to the bottom of your menu.

To create a menu item to link to a page not on your site, type or paste the destination URL in the URL box, and type a label (what the link will say) in the Label box. Then click Add to Menu. The link will be added to the bottom of your menu. To reorder items in your menu, simply drag and drop them in order. All menu items should line up flush left, with a second line indented.

If you need to add additional content below your menu on every page, navigate to Site Options -> Advanced Settings. Here there is a box called Left Sidebar Custom. You may add custom HTML here. (But please be judicious about what you place here…it’s not editorial space, but informational space.) This content will appear on every page of your site. It’s a good choice for, say, an accreditation badge.

Remember to click the Save Menu button before leaving the page, to make all your changes stick.
