Child Care at URI

URI does not offer on-site or subsidized child care at this time. There are several nearby child care providers, which you can find by going to the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families’ Day Care locator. URI does have a Child Development Center, serving children ages 3-6. If you are expecting, or have an infant, and are interested in this option, it is HIGHLY recommended that you get on the waiting list as soon as possible.

Web-Based Access to Local and Regional Child/Elder Care Providers

URI is a member institution of the Bright Horizons Care Advantage Program. All URI employees have free membership in this web-based portal which provides access to many local and distant caregivers and services.

Regional Child Care Centers

RI Department of Children Youth and Families. Day care is providing care for a child outside of their home for any part of a day, by a person other than the child’s parents or legal guardians. The purpose of licensing and certification of child day care centers and family child care homes is to ensure the health, safety and well-being of children while in care outside of their home. A complete list of licensed Centers and homes is available through DCYF.

School-Aged Children

Before & After School. Before and after school programs are becoming more and more important for busy parents. The Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education offers many links to programs for younger children and teens.

Children with Special Needs

Fathers Network mission is to celebrate and support fathers and families raising children with special health care needs and developmental disabilities

RI Department of Human Services offers resources throughout the state for children and adults with special needs.

CEDARR Family Centers. A CEDARR Family Center is a place where families get help and support for children with special needs.

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age 8. NAEYC is committed to becoming an increasingly high performing and inclusive organization.
