Dolman Trail

Of the 2,300 acres at the W. Alton Jones Campus of URI there is a special trail with a destination. The Dolman Trail. It was created by Nick Kettle, Troop 39 Boy Scout. He developed this trail as his Eagle Scout Project.

At the end of the trail is “The Dolman” which is a “Glacial Erratic”. A glacial erratic is a piece of rock carried by glacial ice some distance from the rock outcrop from which it came. Erratics can range in size from pebbles to massive pieces. They can be found miles away from their original location.

The Dolman is a large rock that is supported by 3 little rocks. Many guests hike the trail and then take their photo standing on the Dolman as a keepsake of their hike.
