Margo Jefferson is a Pulitzer Prize-winning cultural critic. She is the author of On Michael Jackson and Negroland: A Memoir. Negroland was chosen as one of 2015’s best books by The Washington Post, The New York Times and Time Magazine and won the 2016 National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography. She has been a staff writer for The New York Times and Newsweek. Her reviews and essays have appeared in New York Magazine, Grand Street, Vogue, Harper’s and many other publications. She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Rockefeller Foundation/Theater Communications Group grant. She has also written and performed two theater pieces at The Cherry Lane Theatre and The Culture Project. She lives in New York and teaches in the School of the Arts at Columbia University.
