Each&nbsp;year, a team of qualified youth represent URI 4-H at the ESE horse show. The URI 4-H horse team will stay at the Big E in a dormitory for the duration of the show. The horse team will be accompanied by URI 4-H chaperones (parents are welcome to volunteer as chaperones). Find more information about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebige.com\/p\/competitions\/4-h\/dormitory--passes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">staying at the Big E<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rules for ESE are determined by the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NewEngland4H\/\" target=\"_blank\">New England 4-H Horse Program Committee<\/a>. This committee is composed of Cooperative Extension staff and 4-H volunteers from each New England state. Thinking about applying? Follow the checklist below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebige.com\/p\/competitions\/4-h\/packetshttp:\/\">Big E Horse Packet<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/4h\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1722\/Horse-Verification-Form.pdf\">horse verification form<\/a> by May 1 (even if you&#8217;re not sure yet, you should still submit one so that you are eligible if you decide to attend).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If applicable, submit a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/4h\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1722\/Horse-Lease-Form.pdf\">lease form<\/a> by May 1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/4h\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1722\/ESE-Application-2026.pdf\">RI ESE Application Packet<\/a> by August 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are selected for the RI team, you will be notified by the state office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents and URI 4-H volunteers are welcome to chaperone the URI 4-H horse team at ESE. Chaperones must be screened and approved URI 4-H volunteers (age 21+). URI 4-H staff will appoint chaperones in August. If you are interested in chaperoning, please contact the URI 4-H State Office.
