STAMPS test accepted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"fullwidth \">2 units in history or social science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \"><strong>The Office of Admission conducts a holistic review of applicants. These are some of the characteristics of admitted TD Scholars.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"fullwidth \">The student may not meet the traditional admission requirements for URI (or for specific academic programs). This includes factors such as high school GPA, the rigor and level of coursework completed, and total academic units, particularly for competitive programs. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"fullwidth \">First-Generation College Status: In many cases, neither parent has earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"fullwidth \">Support Needs: Based on the Admission counselor\u2019s assessment, the student may benefit from the additional mentoring and support services offered through the TD Program to promote college success.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transfer Applicants (CCRI only)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">Transfer applicants from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) must satisfy the 13 core college preparatory units (through high school and\/or CCRI), earn 24\u201330 transferable credits, and have a minimum college GPA of 2.3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Applicants with a GED<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">The above requirements and a college-ready GED score between 165-174.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\">Residency Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">To be considered for the Talent Development Program (TD), you must meet the following residency requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"fullwidth \">You are a U.S. citizen or currently holding a U.S. permanent resident card (a &#8220;Green Card&#8221;) <br><strong>and<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"fullwidth \">You are a legal resident of the State of Rhode Island and have resided in Rhode Island for 12 continuous months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Have questions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \"><strong>Contact Talent Development Admission Officer,<a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.uri.edu\/portal\/meetwithvianka\"> Vianka Hiciano<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-thumbnail@2x is-resized is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/840\/ViankaHweb-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35423\" style=\"width:193px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/840\/ViankaHweb-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/840\/ViankaHweb-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/840\/ViankaHweb-364x364.jpg 364w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/840\/ViankaHweb-500x500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/840\/ViankaHweb.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Required<br \/>\nMaterials<\/h1>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\">It is the applicant\u2019s responsibility to request these documents. Your school counselors can assist you in submitting the following documents electronically via the Common Application.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list fullwidth\">\n<li>Completed <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/first-year\/stars\/\">STARS Record (formerly known as SRAR\/SSAR)<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/admissions.uri.edu\/apply\/status\/\">URI applicant portal<\/a>. If you attend a school with proficiency-based grading or narrative transcripts, then please list your course titles and use pass or fail to indicate the grade you received.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Official high school transcript(s). \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CCRI applicants must use the <a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.uri.edu\/apply\/\">URI Transfer Application<\/a> and submit their CCRI transcript.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Official copy of GED scores (if applicable)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letter of recommendation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TD essay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\">TD Essay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">The TD essay should address why the student feels they are eligible for the TD program, and explain how the program&#8217;s opportunities will help them achieve their academic, professional, or personal goals. The essay should include aspects of the student\u2019s lived experience, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list fullwidth\">\n<li>Any educational, familial, cultural, economic, or social experiences or opportunities relevant to their academic journey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challenges and\/or obligations they have had to address in order to achieve their educational goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Application<br \/>\nProcess<\/h1>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\">First-year students apply to TD through the Common Application. CCRI transfer students apply to TD through the URI Transfer Application.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list fullwidth\">\n<li>Check the box on the Common Application to indicate interest in TD and enter the fee waiver code: RI00000000+TD=fall2026. CCRI transfer students and those not currently enrolled in school should contact the TD office at 401-874-2901 to obtain their code.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TD Scholars must submit a supplemental essay that clearly addresses their interest in being considered for the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Financial<br \/>\nAid<\/h1>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\">Admission and enrollment in the TD program is not based on income. Not all TD Scholars receive financial assistance.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">Eligible TD Scholars may be awarded the need-based Hardge\/Forleo Grant or the Onward We Learn Grant. These grants are designated to cover tuition expenses only.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\"><strong>&nbsp;Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">Financial aid awards (state and federal student grants, loans, and work-study) are based on demonstrated financial need. <strong>All TD applicants must complete the FAFSA<\/strong>; URI Enrollment Services uses this data to determine financial aid eligibility. Signed copies of parent\/guardian and\/or student tax forms and other documents may be required to finalize the student\u2019s award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\"><strong>FAFSA Help<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">For help with filing the FAFSA, students may contact their guidance office. In addition, the RI Educational Opportunity Center (401-455-6028) and the College Planning Center of Rhode Island (401-736-3170) assist with FAFSA submission.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Enrollment<br \/>\nRequirements<\/h1>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\"><strong>To successfully enroll in TD after acceptance, TD Scholars must:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list fullwidth\">\n<li>Attend the mandatory TD Spring Preparatory Program on March 14, 2026.*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend one of the URI Welcome Days (March\/April). Submit an Intent to Enroll Form by May 1.**<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \"><em>* Failure to attend the PREP program will result in the revocation of the student\u2019s admission decision.<\/em><br><em>** Submission of the Intent to Enroll form is required for enrollment in the TD program. Failure to submit the form by the deadline will result in the revocation of admission.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\"><strong>URI New Student Orientation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">All entering TD Scholars are required to attend New Student Orientation before the start of the Summer Success Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading fullwidth\"><strong>TD Summer Success Program<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth \">Participate in the TDSSP from July 5\u2013August 14, 2026. TD Scholars are required to live on campus and participate in college transition activities in person.
