URI Equity Coalition

The URI Equity Coalition was formed in 2006 to collaborate on initiatives that promote diversity at URI for faculty, staff, and students, and to explore ways to coordinate and streamline these efforts.  Originally, members included representatives from 5 committees that report directly to the President or Provost: The President’s Commission on the Status of Women, the President’s Commission on the Status of Students, Staff, and Faculty of Color, the NSF ADVANCE Program, the Affirmative Action Committee, and the Harassment Committee.

In the fall of 2007, the Coalition was expanded to include representatives of any organization on campus that promotes diversity initiatives.  It is believed that the presence of more voices will increase the inclusiveness of the Coalition; allow us all to share information, ideas, and perhaps projects; and increase the base of support behind any initiatives we as a group decided to promote.

The Coalition is evolving and expanding.  We may, for example, be expanding to include student organizations. If you represent a diversity-focused organization not included below, or you know of an organization not included, please let us know, as our aim is to represent and promote inclusion at URI as much as possible.  Please call 874-9422 for more information.
