Grades are reported to the Office of Enrollment Services no later than 48 hours after the end of the final examination period. The review process commences and notifications are mailed as soon end of term grades are received from Enrollment Services.<\/p>\n\n\n<a class=\"cl-button  prominent block-level\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/advising\/academic-status\/calculate-your-gpa\/\" title=\"\">calculate your gpa<\/a>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Good Standing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">To remain in &#8220;good academic standing,&#8221; students must maintain a 2.0 overall grade point average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dean&#8217;s List<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Full-time students qualify for &#8220;Dean&#8217;s List&#8221; by completing 12 or more credits and by achieving a 3.3 GPA. Part-time students qualify by completing an accumulation of 12 or more credits and achieving a 3.3 GPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Probation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Probation is a warning to students that if their grades don&#8217;t improve, they may be academically dismissed. A student is placed on probation if their cumulative GPA is below a 2.0. Students may continue on probation for up to 3 consecutive semesters before being dismissed <strong>only if their quality point deficit is not equal to or greater than 8.0 points.<\/strong> Students placed on probation will receive official notification of their academic status and required to complete a needs assessment and academic&nbsp;probation module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dismissal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Students in any of the following categories are subject to dismissal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First semester freshmen or new transfer students below a 1.0 GPA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"FULLWIDTH\">Students previously on probation who have 8 or more point deficit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students on probation for 3 consecutive semesters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/advising\/academic-policies\/academic-dismissal\/\">Academic Dismissal Policies and Procedures<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.uri.edu\/register\/ugrdreadmitform\">Readmission Policies and Procedures<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Second Grade Option<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">To apply for the Second Grade Option\u00a0<strong>*<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/registration-records\/grading-and-honors-2\/#cl-tabs-1-tab-section-4\"><strong>for courses repeated prior to Fall 2026<\/strong><\/a>, you must <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSd682n9O_Q5Ahsjm82D45DmNpnHi1KfRlpfrVijSvH_t-2tPw\/viewform\">complete the required form<\/a>\u00a0to be submitted to the Fannon Institute for review.\u00a0Courses taken <strong>**<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/registration-records\/grading-and-honors-2\/#cl-tabs-1-tab-section-3\">during Fall 2026 and beyond<\/a><\/strong> are subject to the newly established rules outlined <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/registration-records\/grading-and-honors-2\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Starting in Fall 2026, the lower of the two course grades will be\u00a0automatically\u00a0removed from your earned credits and GPA calculation.\u00a0No form is required.<br><br><strong>Courses repeated prior to Fall 2026*<\/strong><br>You may exercise the Second Grade Option (SGO) policy.\u00a0 For courses repeated prior to Fall 2026 students can repeat a course in which they earned a C-, D+, D, or F. Only courses that fall within your first 30 credits attempted credits may be selected for this option. You must exercise this no later than the next two semesters for which you register after attempting 30 credits. With the SGO, the grade you earn on your second attempt will replace the first grade you earned, removing its impact on your overall GPA.\u00a0 The deadline to apply for a Second Grade Option is mid-semester.\u00a0<br><br><strong>Fall 2026 &amp; beyond<\/strong><br><strong>**<\/strong>Effective Fall 2026, you may repeat any course in which your first attempt resulted in a C- or below grade. The first attempt can be from any prior semester; however, your second attempt must be completed in Fall 2026 or later.\u00a0For full details of the\u00a0new SGO rules, click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/registration-records\/grading-and-honors-2\/\">here.<\/a> No petition or form is needed for these repeats. The lower of the two course grades will be\u00a0<em>automatically<\/em>\u00a0removed from your earned credits and GPA calculation.<br><br><em><strong>University Manual 8.33.32<\/strong><\/em><br><em>Undergraduate students may exercise a Second Grade Option by repeating a course in which the student earned a C-, D+, D, or F. When a student exercises the Second Grade Option, only the grade earned when the course is repeated will be used in the calculation of a student\u2019s QPA and only the credits earned for the repeated course will apply toward the graduation requirements. All grades earned for a given course shall remain on a student\u2019s permanent academic record. The Second Grade Option may be used only once per course.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/118N9BvvAJxvbCkudwiiV6irUiaMlRb0d\/view\">#25-26-FSEC-04 (amended)<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other Course Repeat Policies<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\"><strong>Repeating a course in which a C or greater was earned:<\/strong><br>No course may be repeated for credit in which a C or higher was received. Students will not be blocked from enrolling in these courses. Upon grading, the course will be assigned an Out-of-Policy repeat code. This displays on the unofficial and official transcripts. Out-of-Policy Repeats are not used in the calculation of earned credits or GPAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Students can petition for the Out-of-Policy Repeats to count at any time during their active career.
