Students must fulfill the requirements of the general education program and take 36-51 in the major (24-39 in art and 12 in art history). Of the 120 credits required for graduation, 42 credits must be in courses numbered 300 or above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Foundation Courses<\/strong><br>As an art major, you should plan to complete the following courses in your first year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ART 207: Drawing I (3 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Two courses (6 credits) from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ART 101: Two-Dimensional Studio (3 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 103: Three-Dimensional Studio (3 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 105: 4D (Time-Based) Studio I (3 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>One Art History course:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ART 251: Introduction to Art History: Ancient-Medieval (3 credits)<br>or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 252: Introduction to Art History: Renaissance-Modern\u00a0(3 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sophomore Review<\/strong><br>In the first semester of your sophomore year, you will participate in ART 002: Sophomore Review, a special evaluation set up to provide art majors with timely feedback from faculty once they have completed the foundation courses. When you register for ART 002, you will submit a Statement of Purpose form, and will prepare a portfolio of 15-20 of your best works from foundation courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other Required Courses<br><\/strong>An additional 6 credits must be selected from one of the following sequences of studio courses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ART 204, 304: Graphic Design I and II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 208, 309: Drawing II and III<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 213, 314: Photography I (B\/W Photography) and II (B\/W Darkroom)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 214, 315: Photography I (Digital) and II (Digital Darkroom)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 215, 316: Video and Multimedia I and II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 221, 322: Painting I and II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 231, 332: Printmaking I and II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 233, 334: Relief Printing and Typography I and II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 243, 344: Sculpture I and II<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This sequence must be completed by the end of the junior year. An additional three (3) credits of studio art on the 200- or 300-level must be selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must take two art history electives at the 300 level or above, one of which must be selected from the following modern or contemporary art courses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ART 331: The African-American Artist in Context: A Cultural and Historical Survey II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 361: Modern Art<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 362: Contemporary Art<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 364: American Art<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 374: Topics in Film<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 375: Topics in the History of Photography<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 380: Topics in Art and Architectural History (with topic approved by chair)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ART 480: Advanced Topics in European and American Art (with topic approved by chair)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In your senior year, an additional six (6) credits must be selected from 300-level studio courses (except 301) or ART 405: Studio Seminar. Many students choose to do an internship in their junior or senior year.
