Every day the world creates 2.5 quintillion bytes of data. The total amount of data being captured and stored by industry doubles every 1.2 years. Google alone processes on average over 40 thousand queries per second, making it over 3.5 billion in a single day. But at the moment, less than 5% of all data is ever analyzed and used. Double Major<\/h1>

Data Science represents a new paradigm for scientific discovery. For that reason, many students choose to double major in data science and a natural or social science<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

Data Science at URI<\/strong> is a world class program where students prepare for dynamic data science careers in healthcare, transportation, sports, finance, government, e-commerce, gaming, social media, insurance, or many other domains. We emphasize an inclusive learning environment that welcomes and supports students of all genders, races, religions, and ethnicities.<\/p>\n

Students learn<\/b> to collect, clean, organize, access, analyze, and communicate data to make decisions, discoveries, and predictions regarding real world problems. Cross disciplinary teams from different domains collaborate and work with data to conduct research, answer questions, and solve complex problems, while being aware of and dealing with the ethical implications. Methods and skills emanate from computer science, ethics, mathematics, and statistics. <\/p>\n

Job prospects <\/b>are strong. Since its inception in 2016, Glassdoor, a worldwide leader on insights about jobs and companies, ranked Data Scientist as either its first, second or third best<\/b> job in America, based on median base salary, the number of active job openings, and employee satisfaction rates.
