The Global RIghts Project (GRIP) draws upon the world’s largest quantitative human rights database to create an annual report on global human rights practices.<\/p>\n

The GRIP annual report grades each nation of the world according to its respect for a suite 25 representative human rights. Measures for each right are drawn from the CIRIGHTS Data Project, which aims to measure every human right in every country on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Our goals:<\/h1>

              <\/p>\n

  • Provide policymakers, NGOs, journalists, and others with objective information about human rights practices worldwide.<\/li>\n
  • Deepen our understanding of the factors that predict better or worse human rights practices while tracking trends over time.<\/li>\n
  • Involve students in textual analysis and other techniques used to objectively measure human rights.<\/li>\n

    2023 GRIP Annual Report<\/h2>

    Released on Dec. 7, 2023, the inaugural GRIP annual report is the first global human rights report card to be release in 40 years. The report is produced by researchers in the URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies in association with the CIRIGHTS Data Project. <\/p><\/div><\/div>

    The CIRIGHTS Data Project<\/h2>

    Human rights scores are necessary for understanding why governments violate human rights, why they violate some rights more than others, and how violations affect conflict and development. The goal of CIRIGHTS is to create numerical measures for every internationally recognized human right for all countries of the world. <\/p><\/div><\/div>
