To mark the occasion, URI is planning a yearlong virtual series focused on suffrage history and modern-day voting issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Thursday, October 15th, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Martha S. Jones, Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor and Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University, will give a virtual talk on race and suffrage titled \u201cHow Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All.&#8221; Professor Jones\u2019s books include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(2020) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Birthright Citizens: A History of Race and Rights in Antebellum America<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (2018).
