Jeanie Austin &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/harrington\/meet\/melissa-villa-nicholas\/\">Melissa Villa-Nicholas<\/a>\u2019 paper, titled, \u201cInformation Provision and the Carceral State: Race and Reference beyond the Idea of the \u2018Underserved,&#8217;\u201d published in the journal The Reference Librarian, was judged by the award jury to be the best paper submitted in this year\u2019s contest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Dr. Melissa Villa-Nicholas is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. Her research interests include the history of Latina\/os with information technologies and information spaces, Latina\/o socio-techno practices, new media studies, and race\/class\/gender technology studies.
