What makes the College of Arts and Sciences at URI unique?
A. The College of Arts Sciences at URI is unique in a broad sense because of all the different and special classes a student can take. Especially in the Sociology department, a student can grasp what makes society work and the social, economic, and political actions shaping everyday people.

What accomplishments and/or activities at URI are you most proud of now?
Besides graduating with two degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences, I am also proud to gain my U.S. Army commission. I’m proud of my time at ROTC and also the citizen’s police academy on campus.

What research projects, internships, experiential learning, and/or study abroad programs did you participate in at URI?
I was able to help Dr. Megan Perry with her research into how parents of autistic children perceive the police, as well as be a part of a team led by Dr. Judy Van Wyk that goes into the juvenile justice world, exploring all the angles and spending time at places such as Ocean Tides.

What do you value about your liberal arts education?
I value the freedom a liberal arts education gives to its students. In other words, the ability to explore all career fields and have the knowledge to impact.

What have been some highlights of your time in the Sociology and CCJ departments?
Some highlights include my time at Ocean Tides with Dr. Van Wyk. In the time I’ve spent in all my Sociology classes, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of society and learned more about myself. I came to the double major at the recommendation of my advisor, who put it simply, it’s just a few extra classes for the double major. Combining that with my love for both disciplines was an easy choice and very approachable at the university.

What’s next for you?
After completing my time at the university, I am also leaving my national guard unit to switch over to active duty. So, I will be in Missouri at Fort Leonard Wood for some training.

Anything else you’d like to share?
Just that I will miss the university, the people, and the environment as a whole, this place showed me who I am, and I look forward to who I will become.

Criminology and Criminal Justice and Sociology

“I was able to help Dr. Megan Perry with her research into how parents of autistic children perceive the police, as well as be a part of a team led by Dr. Judy Van Wyk that goes into the juvenile justice world.”

[349

post-13661","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-class-of-2022
["GET
