This full-day event was intentionally created to address the evolving role of AI in computer science education. The event bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience by addressing transparency around workforce readiness and career pathways in the rapidly evolving technology sector.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cArtificial intelligence is fundamentally changing how software is built and reshaping the future of tech careers,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cs\/meet\/marco-alvarez\/\">Marco Alvarez<\/a>, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in computer science and statistics. \u201cWhile public headlines portray software automation as a threat to tech roles, and entry-level hiring has tightened in parts of the tech sector, the longer term outlook for computing remains strong. As routine programming tasks become increasingly automated, the ability to understand computer science principles, solve complex problems, and design and evaluate software systems becomes increasingly important. Official national projections support this broader outlook highlighting strong overall growth and high compensation in computing fields, faster than the average for all occupations from 2025 to 2035.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day will kick off with an interactive conversation with Dr. Michael L. Littman, associate provost for artificial intelligence at Brown University, about the future of artificial intelligence and how AI is reshaping computer science education. Attendees will then hear from Industry panelists where employer experts from Schneider Electric, CodePath, AlgoArena, Axial Search, amongst others, will speak to the impacts of AI in hiring. There will also be a roundtable where URI Computer Science alumni will share their career trajectories from college to industry, insights to career growth, and lessons learned along the way. After a networking lunch, the summit will conclude with experiential workshops led by experts in the tech field such as AWS, AlgoArena, DataBricks, Fidelity, and URI faculty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cComputer science is not exclusively about machines or software; it\u2019s about creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and using knowledge to address some of the most important challenges we face as a society,\u201d says Dean Pamela Swett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Computer Science students will ideally walk away with the employer perspective, helping them clarify the skills, experience, and competencies that technology companies seek when evaluating candidates for technology related positions.
