I am also excited about interdisciplinary collaborations around campus, and I just love the overall vibe of URI. I\u2019m a first-generation college graduate, so I feel like I\u2019ll be able to relate to a lot of URI students.\u00a0<br><br><strong>How did you become interested in your field? <br><\/strong>I was drawn to applied research because I wanted to make a measurable impact on people\u2019s lives. I focused on health communication because it couples two things I am passionate about: understanding human interactions and improving health outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are you most excited about in your new role? <br><\/strong>Working closely with learners again! I worked as a college instructor and debate coach for 10 years before pursuing my PhD. While I\u2019ve been working in research for the past 6 years, my heart has always been in the classroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are you currently researching? <br><\/strong>I am currently working on a project to understand effective communication strategies that pharmacists and infectious disease clinicians can use to persuade clinicians to practice safe prescribing approaches for antibiotics by prescribing more narrow spectrum agents and for shorter duration. This is important as our society continues to face antibiotic-resistant infections caused by overexposure to antibiotics.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What do you enjoy most about teaching? <br><\/strong>I love working with people, playing a supportive role in students\u2019 journeys, and getting to learn new perspectives every semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are there faculty or departments you&#8217;d especially like to collaborate with? <br><\/strong>I am especially interested in exploring collaborations with folks in URI\u2019s Department of Public Health and College of Pharmacy. I\u2019m looking forward to networking as the semester gets started.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How can students best approach you if they&#8217;re interested in your research? <br><\/strong>I am happy to chat with anyone who would like to chat. I also love traveling, hiking, and exploring around New England with my husband and 9-year-old son.
