What accomplishments and\/or activities are you most proud of while at URI?<\/b><\/p>\n

I am proud that I\u2019ve been actively involved on campus without this being to the detriment of my academics. This year alone, I served as the President of the Student Alliance for the Welfare of Africa (SAWA) which involved planning a monumental hair show, a banquet, two week long events, and several other smaller events and meetings. I also served as the Vice-President of the Economics Student Association, and a member of the finance committee for the annual Diversifying Individuals Via Education (DIVE) conference. Through all of this, I have been able to engross myself in my field, Economics. I recently learnt that I will be receiving the Academic Excellence award for my major and the Estes Benson award for the Black senior with the highest GPA. <\/span><\/p>\n

What, if any, research projects, internships, and\/or study abroad programs did you participate in at URI? <\/b><\/p>\n

Spring 2018, I began a project studying imperialism in Africa. That summer, I received the inaugural Arts and Science Summer Research Fellowship which allowed me to further develop my study. That Fall, I made my first presentation at the Union for Radical Political Economy 50th Anniversary Conference. With the help of the A&S fellowship and the Undergraduate Research and Innovation grant, I am currently continuing my research for my Honors capstone project. My research has brought me other opportunities including my presentation at the Eastern Economics Association conference, and a book review currently under peer review at the Review of Radical Political Economy journal. I believe my research experience was the main determinant of my success with graduate school applications. I am fortunate to have gotten into every program I applied to with early admission and full funding. In the Fall, I will commence my Ph.D in Economics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. <\/span><\/p>\n

What do you value about your liberal arts education?<\/b><\/p>\n

I value the flexibility my degree offers. It is satisfying to know that my major, Economics, can be applied to just about every field. I am also pleased that my education has taught me to see the many sides of people, and how their ideas and ways of living may be shaped by this.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
