{"id":7226,"date":"2019-11-08T08:50:27","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T13:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/artsci\/?p=7226"},"modified":"2019-11-08T08:50:56","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T13:50:56","slug":"call-for-nominations-college-excellence-awards-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/artsci\/news\/call-for-nominations-college-excellence-awards-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for\u00a0Nominations\u00a0&#8212; College Excellence Awards 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students, faculty, administrators and staff are invited to&nbsp;nominate&nbsp;candidates for the&nbsp;awards&nbsp;listed.&nbsp;<strong>Please submit one-page&nbsp;nominations&nbsp;to the Dean\u2019s Office in 257 Chafee or via email to Anna Vaccaro Gray (<u>anna@uri.edu<\/u>) by Thursday, November 14, 2019.&nbsp;<\/strong>All&nbsp;nominations&nbsp;should include the name and contact information of the person nominating, the name of the nominee, the&nbsp;award&nbsp;category, and the reasons why this person should receive the&nbsp;award.<\/p>\n<p>Awards&nbsp;this year will include a plaque and $50 gift certificate to the URI Bookstore. For the PTF and GTA teaching&nbsp;award, as well as the administrative support staff award, in addition to the plaque there will be a $250 monetary&nbsp;award.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Dean\u2019s Advisory Committee will select the recipients of each&nbsp;award, and they will be announced at the College holiday gathering in December.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teaching&nbsp;Awards<\/strong>: Students, faculty, administrators and staff are invited to&nbsp;nominate&nbsp;instructional personnel who excel in engaging students in learning.&nbsp;<u>Four&nbsp;<\/u>awards&nbsp;will be presented: one to a tenure track faculty member, one to a lecturer, one to a part-time faculty member, and one to a graduate teaching assistant. Although letters should focus on teaching&nbsp;excellence, any relevant service to a candidate\u2019s department or to the College of Arts and Sciences may also be noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Criteria for&nbsp;awards&nbsp;include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strength of letter(s)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Quality and\/or originality of pedagogy<\/li>\n<li>Ability to generate excitement about the subject<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to student success<\/li>\n<li>(For tenure-track) number and level of courses taught over a three-year period commensurate with the discipline<\/li>\n<li>Have they been&nbsp;nominatedbefore?&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Any relevant service to a candidate\u2019s department or to the greater University community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Research&nbsp;Award<\/strong>: Students, faculty, administrators and staff are invited to&nbsp;nominate&nbsp;faculty members who have established an outstanding record of accomplishments in research, scholarship and creative work. Any relevant service to a candidate\u2019s department or to the College of Arts and Sciences may also be noted. Supporting material such as&nbsp;nominees\u2019 curriculum vitae are welcome.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Criteria for&nbsp;award&nbsp;includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strength of letter(s)<\/li>\n<li>Originality of scholarship or creative work<\/li>\n<li>Contribution to the field&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Quality of publication\/creative output<\/li>\n<li>Have they been&nbsp;nominatedbefore?&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Advising&nbsp;Award<\/strong>: Undergraduate students, faculty, administrators and staff are invited to&nbsp;nominate&nbsp;faculty members who are outstanding undergraduate advisors. Please consider dedicated professionals who effectively advise students about undergraduate and graduate study and professional career paths. Any relevant service to a candidate\u2019s department or to the College of Arts and Sciences may also be noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Criteria for&nbsp;award&nbsp;includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quality of letter(s)<\/li>\n<li>Nature and\/or breadth of advising<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to student success<\/li>\n<li>Have they been&nbsp;nominatedbefore?&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Any relevant service to a candidate\u2019s department or to the greater University community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mentoring&nbsp;Award<\/strong>: Graduate students, faculty, administrators and staff are invited to&nbsp;nominate&nbsp;graduate faculty members who are outstanding mentors and major professors. Please consider professors who set&nbsp;excellent&nbsp;examples by their own research, scholarship and creative work, who guide graduate students in their professional development, and who effectively mentor and prepare students for comprehensive examinations, theses and\/or dissertation processes.
