Over the past few years, my classmates and I had caring and supportive professors who pushed us to grow creatively, while also maintaining our freedom to explore. I will definitely miss the painting studio\u2014a space which has come to feel like home, where we could feel \u201ccomfortably uncomfortable\u201d when experimenting with new ideas and processes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>What accomplishments and activities are you most proud of doing while at URI?<br \/>\n<\/strong>The accomplishment I\u2019m most proud of is probably learning another language, which would not have been possible without the help and encouragement from the French Department and faculty. I was also very happy when I received the Jesse M. Simmons Memorial Scholarship, the David Ketner Memorial Scholarship, as well as the first prize for the URI President&#8217;s Office Annual Holiday Card Competition in 2017. (See that art <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1132\/Joanne-Liu-painting.png\" rel=\"lightbox[8718]\">here<\/a>!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>What research projects, internships, and\/or study abroad programs did<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>you participate in at URI? How did they enhance your education?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Currently, I am doing a design internship at Whalers Brewing Company. It has been a fun learning experience, and I have improved my technical skills in Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as photography. Besides that, I work at the gallery in the Fine Arts Center, which has allowed me to meet and speak to many professional artists and curators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>What do you value about your liberal arts education?<br \/>\n<\/strong>I appreciated that it gave me the opportunity to take a huge variety of courses.
