Biography
Joannah Portman-Daley comes to Online Education from the URI Harrington School of Communications and Media, where she worked as Digital Pedagogy Specialist and oversaw faculty development in teaching with technology. Prior to that, she worked for several years as the Associate Director of Technology in the Department of Writing & Rhetoric at URI, where she earned her PhD. In addition to teaching Writing & Rhetoric courses, Joannah provided instructional design support for the department, managed the Writing Rhode Island Production lab, and offered faculty development workshops. As a natural extension of her previous posts, Joannah joined the Office of Online Education in September 2013 as Instructional Design Specialist. She now works with faculty across the University helping them to design and improve their online and blended courses, both in terms of content and quality. She is a institutional representative for Quality Matters and continues to teach courses in the Department of Writing & Rhetoric.
Research
Joannah’s research focuses primarily on online teaching and learning, teaching with technology, and using technology for public outreach and community engagement. She presents her work regularly at international conferences such as Conference on College Composition and Communication and Computers and Writing.
