Working with ATL, the Academic Enhancement Center (AEC), and your colleagues, you will learn how to equip your students with the skills they need to teach themselves how to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will use research-supported approaches and strategies from award-winning faculty member and student success scholar Dr. Sandra McGuire and her book Teach Students How to Learn. This book emphasizes practical techniques to help students become active and efficient learners. (Chapter 5)<\/td><td>Implementing strategies to help students develop a growth mindset (Chapters 6-9)<\/td><td>Finishing touches<\/td>        <\/tr>\n    <\/tbody><!--ninja_tobody_rendering_done-->\n    <\/table>\n    \n    \n    \n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deliverables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Activities designed to help students teach themselves how to learn.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reflection that could become part of your teaching statement for tenure\/promotion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participation in a process of peer observation designed to help all participants learn and grow with one another<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will receive a free copy of: Saundra Yancy McGuire. (2015).<em> Teach students how to learn\u202f: strategies you can incorporate into any course to improve student metacognition, study skills, and motivation .<\/em> Stylus Publishing, LLC.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  \"><h1>To apply<\/h1>\n\n<p>Fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfOU8BOJ9L2C5_vDUHuCJ8hzS7TSK8SD6yjXpYL278eJodeLQ\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">application form<\/a>. There is space for up to 24 participants. <strong>Deadline to apply: September 8.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Compensation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants who attend 6 of the 7 sessions and complete all the stated deliverables will be eligible to earn $500 in professional development that can be used to purchase technology, software, or support faculty professional development. Graduate students are not eligible to receive this award.
