ATL invites URI instructors to join us this summer for an opportunity to (re)discover what is sustainable for you as a person and teacher, and give students the support they need. This institute aims to help us construct a culture of care by exploring ways to mitigate burnout and identifying structures of support within our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants will engage in a 3.5-week workshop from May 19 – June 10 (3 weeks hybrid, .5 week asynchronous) where you will reconnect with your professional self, become Mental Health First Aid certified, explore campus resources and contemplative spaces, and identify and (re)design a course element that incorporates trauma-informed pedagogical principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A stipend of $1000 will be offered to each participant upon program and deliverable completion.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s Summer Institute draws on the themes of resilience and flourishing in higher education as seen earlier in the year during URI’s Academic Summit and ATL’s Innovative Education Conference. Participation in either of those prior events is not required to join this Summer Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of ATL\u2019s Summer Institute on \u201c(Re)Discovering a Culture of Care at URI\u201d is to provide a space for bringing interested faculty together to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. develop strategies to mitigate burnout and reclaim time<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. strengthen connections with colleagues and campus resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. acquire a Mental Health First Aid certification and practice the ALGEE action plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. incorporate trauma-informed principles into your teaching<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
