Guiding Questions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As you start creating or revising your syllabus, consider the following guiding questions.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who are your students?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How many students in your course?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is this typically the first time students have encountered your discipline?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What motivations drive your students? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How does it fit into the curriculum and their academic journey?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What purpose(s) does your syllabus fill?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A document that meets institutional requirements\/guidance\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Refer to the most recent guidance from the Provost&#8217;s Office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information required for transfer (description, outcomes)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information needed by the department and\/or for program assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>External professional standards that need to be met<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A first introduction of you and the course to your students (e.g., &#8220;letter to the students&#8221;)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What is the tone you want to set? Read your syllabus as a student &#8211; better yet, have someone else do it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are your course goals?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Need help?
