She contributed to multiple projects, such as observing honey bee water foraging habits, maintaining and monitoring man-made bumble bee nests, and helping with NRCS surveys. Fiona worked on finding specialist\u00a0bees and other rare bee species around the state. She assisted in data collection for a checklist of bee species in Rhode Island.\u00a0Fiona&#8217;s favorite part of working in the lab was getting to go to unique sites across Rhode Island and seeing all the different kinds of ecosystems. In her free time,\u00a0Fiona\u00a0enjoys reading, painting, and spending time in nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"448\" height=\"379\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/beelab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2136\/Abby-Gill--e1721305873743.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-579 size-full\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Abby Gill<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Abby Gill was the Bee Lab\u2019s 2024 Coastal &amp; Environmental Fellow with support from Jen Nauck and Eben Horton, The Glass Station. She researched cranberry pollination in cultivated and wild bogs, and helped with NRCS bee surveys. Abby\u2019s favorite part of the lab was getting to learn something new every day. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing and hiking around New England.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"448\" height=\"441\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/beelab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2136\/Kate-Perzanowski--e1721305852370.jpeg\" alt=\"picture of Kate Perzanowski\" class=\"wp-image-578 size-full\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kate Perzanowski<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kate Perzanowski started working in the bee lab summer 2023 looking at the visitation of bumble bees to various clover species and self heal.&nbsp; She also assisted with evaluating planted pollinator meadows. Kate most enjoyed looking for megachilid bees while surveying. She assisted with a variety of research projects, including Julia Vieira\u2019s clover project, water-collecting behavior of honey bees, and varroa mite management. Her favorite part of working in the lab is catching and holding male bumble bees.
