TechSmith Knowmia (Relay)

While TechSmith Knowmia has been a popular application at URI, TechSmith announced in
February of 2021 that support for Knowmia would be ending. As a result, URI is phasing out Knowmia and has rolled out Panopto as the video platform for the institution. Many faculty who have taught in the hybrid
classrooms are already familiar with aspects of Panopto’s robust video and streaming platform.
URI ITS is committed to working with our user community to ensure a smooth transition from
Knowmia to Panopto.

Effective August 31, 2021, Knowmia is no longer available for creating or uploading new media content. Your Knowmia accounts will remain valid through Friday, May 22, 2022. During this period, users are still able to view, download, share, add captions to, and link to your Knowmia videos. Your Knowmia media (excluding YouTube videos) have been migrated for you to your Panopto video library. Click here to learn details about our Knowmia to Panopto migration plan.

  • Panopto is available to all faculty, staff, and students via URI’s Single Sign-On authentication scheme.
  • Panopto is integrated with our Brightspace learning management system.
  • There is no restriction on the length of the videos you create, and there is no storage quota for hosting the videos.
  • It is simple to use and allows users to screen-cast and record whatever is on your desktop with minimal effort.
  • It has auto captioning features and provides a great way to showcase digital course materials for asynchronous learning.
