Professor Chen’s research interests arise from observing the changes in the business environment and how business entities react to these changes. His early research focused on the firm’s optimal product design, offering strategies in the area of multifunction products that proliferated in recent years and changed the marketplace. His port demand joint research in the topic of short-sea shipping helped the Port of Davisville in Rhode Island to be awarded a $22.3 million grant from the federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program. Professor Chen is currently working on an information system research that analyzes users’ information push/pull decision and the design of information delivery for the content provider. He has published research papers in Production and Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal, Journal of Business Research, Interfaces, European Journal of Operational Research, and Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education.
