BWL and URI Women’s Hoops Collaborate<\/h2>

Undergraduate research assistant and URI Women’s Basketball Captain Catherine “Dolly” Cairns had a biomechanics question she couldn’t answer. Approaching Dr. Chapman to guide her study has faciliated a collaboration with Tammi Reiss and her women’s basketball student athletes.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

National Biomechanics Day 2022<\/h2>

Annually, the Biomechanics and Wearables Lab directed by Dr. Chapman and the Motion Analysis and Virtual Reality Lab directed by Dr. Susan D\u2019Andrea host high school students from around RI for a day focused on experiencing hands on components of our science. Around 100 students attended the event in 2022, making a significant return to pre-pandemic levels of participation.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Low Back Pain Study<\/h2>

MS student, Chrissie Wojciechowski, and PI Dr. Ryan Chapman are conducting a study evaluating the biomechanics differences between individuals with different presentations of low back pain. The results of their study will better inform how low back pain is managed clinically and improve the efficacy of that care.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Out and Proud at URI<\/h2>

Dr. Chapman has joined Out and Proud at URI as an ally. One of his strongest passions is ensuring historically underrepresented groups have opportunities to conduct high quality research in his lab. Dr. Chapman cultivates an environment where all are welcome regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

New Faculty Spotlight<\/h2>

Dr. Ryan Chapman was hired in the fall of 2021 as an assistant professor of Kinesiology. He now holds an additional appointment in Biomedical Engineering. His interdisciplinary approach helps him solve some of the most challenging healthcare problems using musculoskeletal biomechanics and wearable sensor development.
