(Max 36 Teams)<\/li>\n<li>Floats with the most weight.&nbsp; (Max 20 Teams)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Awards will be presented to teams for the fastest boat, greatest weight load, and in other categories based on creativity &amp; team spirit.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<a class=\"cl-button   prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imleagues.com\/spa\/intramural\/paZJWOxP7qaW67zMji4mSw==\/home\" title=\"\">REGISTER for the Boat Race Feb DATES TBD<\/a>\n<h3>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<h3>Registration<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Register your team of 1-3 members Feb (DATES TBD).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Register through IMLeagues.com\/uri on the Intramural Sports Tab (use the Register button on this page).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"mceNonEditable cl-button-noneditable\" data-shortcode=\"%5Bcl-button%20link%3D%22%22%20text%3D%22SIGN%20UP%20TODAY%22%20tooltip%3D%22%22%20class%3D%22%22%20style%3D%22%22%5D\">Supplies<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A packet of duct tape and cardboard will be provided for each team <em>(teams may gather additional materials on their own if they so choose).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pick up supplies at the Mackal Field House Customer Service Center (dates TBD).&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Regulations<\/h1>\n<h3>All Boat Design and Construction<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Boats must be pre-built and can be \u201cfine-tuned\u201d on-site.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Teams will be given equal amounts of corrugated cardboard and 2 rolls of duct tape.&nbsp; Teams may gather additional materials on their own if they so choose.<\/li>\n<li>Boats must be made ONLY of cardboard and duct tape. NO reinforced cardboard tubes, only broken\u2013down cardboard boxes. No industrial type of cardboard is allowed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Cardboard cannot be sealed with any paint or sealants. Absolutely NO use of the following items: Paint, Tarbased substances, two-part varnishes, fiberglass resin, epoxy glue, any other two-part substances, or corrugated cardboard that&#8217;s bonded to any material.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Duct tape may be of varying colors for creativity but must have come manufactured in said color.<\/li>\n<li>All boats must only be built of corrugated cardboard.&nbsp; If judges deem it necessary<span style=\"font-size: 20px\">, the boat must pass the \u201cice pick test\u201d and the metal detector test.&nbsp; This verifies that the boat is constructed only of cardboard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Your cardboard may be as thick as you want it to be but must only be cardboard.<\/li>\n<li>The only fastening material you can use is duct tape.&nbsp; No screws, glue, etc.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>There are no restrictions placed on decorative materials as long as they do not aid in the flotation or propulsion of the boat or create a safety hazard.&nbsp; Everything must be pool safe. (example, no glitter, paper, glue, tinsel, etc)<\/li>\n<li>No motors.<\/li>\n<li>You must build a paddle of cardboard and duct tape to propel your boat. <b style=\"font-family: Charter, Georgia, serif;font-size: 20px\">&nbsp;<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1>Rules for Categories<\/h1>\n<h3>Racing Category (Fastest for 25 yards)<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Teams may consist of 1 &#8211; 3 members.<\/li>\n<li>Boats must hold at least 1 person.<\/li>\n<li>Boats may be a maximum width of 60\u201d (5 ft) and a maximum length of 84\u201d (7ft)<\/li>\n<li>No surfboard style boats are allowed.<\/li>\n<li>The race must begin and end with the crew intact.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Any use of lane lines or sides of the pool for pushing or pulling your boat will result in disqualification.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>All participants\u2019 arms and legs must be in the boat at all times. Body parts may not be used to propel the boats.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>All boat crew members must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket.&nbsp; Campus Rec will supply them if needed.<\/li>\n<li>The boats will race one length (25 yards) of the competition pool.<\/li>\n<li>Family-friendly costumes and themes are encouraged!<\/li>\n<li>Boats, boat parts, and debris must be disposed of by the team after the event.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Weight Bearing Category (Floats with the most weight)<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Teams may consist of 1 &#8211; 3 members.<\/li>\n<li>Boats may be a maximum width of 60\u201d (5 ft) and a maximum length of 84\u201d (7ft)<\/li>\n<li>Any use of lane lines or sides of the pool for supporting your boat will result in disqualification.<\/li>\n<li>Family-friendly costumes and themes are encouraged!<\/li>\n<li>Boats, boat parts, and debris must be disposed of by the team after the event.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17248 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/960\/boat-building-with-aquatics-staff-286x300.jpg\" alt=\"aquatics staff building a cardboard boat\" width=\"216\" height=\"242\"><\/h2>\n<h2>Construction Suggestions<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Decide on a design and sketch it out.<\/li>\n<li>Do the bottom of the boat first. We suggest two or three layers of cardboard.<\/li>\n<li>Cut side pieces of the corrugated cardboard to ensure durability. Use the dull side of a knife when scoring to make a fold.
