Not for credit in major but strongly recommended as General Education and\/or free electives.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"course-list\">\n<li><strong>GWS 150<\/strong> \u2013 Introduction to Gender &amp; Women Studies<\/li>\n<li><strong>PSC 113<\/strong> \u2013 Introduction to American Politics<\/li>\n<li><strong>PHL 212<\/strong> \u2013 Ethics<\/li>\n<li><strong>PSY 113<\/strong> \u2013 General Psychology<\/li>\n<li><strong>SOC 100<\/strong> \u2013 Introduction to Sociological Perspectives&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Core Courses (9 credits)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These courses are required for all majors.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CCJ\/SOC 230(H)<\/strong> \u2013 Crime and Delinquency<\/li>\n<li><strong>CCJ\/PSC 274(H)<\/strong> \u2013 Criminal Justice System<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px\">Students must receive a <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 20px\">C or better in CCJ\/SOC 230(H) and CCJ\/PSC 274(H) to graduate in the major<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A Capstone Course <\/strong>\u2013 One of the following three courses:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CCJ 403 \u2013 Gender, Crime, and Justice&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CCJ 410 \u2013 Race, Crime, and Justice&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-size: 20px\">CCJ\/PSC 476<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px\"> \u2013 <strong>Policy, Crime, and Justice<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px\">Students <em>may also use these capstone class options as elective credit in the major when not being used as a capstone class&nbsp;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Research Methods (3-4 credits)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students must take one course, selected from the following.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ECN 306<\/strong> \u2013 Introduction to Economic Research Methods&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>PSC 310<\/strong> \u2013 Introduction to Political Science Research (4)<\/li>\n<li><strong>PSY 200<\/strong> \u2013 Quantitative Methods in Psychology (4)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>SOC 301<\/strong> \u2013 Sociological Research Methods&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Major Electives (18-21 credits)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students choose 6 courses from the following elective areas. At least two courses must be taken from each elective area and no more than four courses can be taken in either elective area.&nbsp;All electives must be a minimum of 3 credits. No more than 3 credits may be used toward the major from Internship or Independent Study.<\/p>\n<h2>CCJ Department Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Goal 1<\/strong>: Students will know the criminal justice system and understand the application of the law<\/h3>\n<p>Outcome 1.1: Demonstrate knowledge of constitutional law as it applies to criminology and criminal justice<\/p>\n<p>Outcome 1.2: Locate and interpret research related to discrimination within the criminal justice system<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Goal 2<\/strong>: Students will understand the causes of crime and criminal behavior and the social and systematic response mechanisms<\/h3>\n<p>Outcome 2.1: Explain the correlates and causes of different forms of criminal behavior and victimization<\/p>\n<p>Outcome 2.2: Identify and evaluate theoretically informed treatment modalities for offenders<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Goal 3<\/strong>: Students will use scholarly evidence to inform policy development and practice within the criminal justice system<\/h3>\n<p>Outcome 3.1: Summarize and interpret research in criminology and criminal justice<\/p>\n<p>Outcome 3.2: Evaluate policy using theoretically informed research<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major Requirements The B.A. Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice requires a minimum of 30 credits from the following categories.
