Participants earn 8 Chinese language credits during the eight-week program, and commit to a strict Language Pledge (see application).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Courses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CHN 211\/CHN212 (8 credits total)<\/p>\n<p>These courses are designed for first-year Flagship students who have completed CHN 112(H) or its equivalent, as well as adults and students matriculating at any institution who have a Novice High\/Intermediate Low level of proficiency and are interested in an immersive language learning experience.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Textbook to purchase:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>\u524d\u8fdb\u4e2d\u6587\uff1a\u4e2d\u7ea7\u8bfe\u7a0b (Progressive Chinese: Intermediate Course)<\/li>\n<li>Integrated Chinese 4th Ed., Volume 4<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Housing &amp; Dining<\/h3>\n<p>Participants in the Chinese Flagship Immersion Program are housed in the IEP (International Engineering Program) House on the Kingston Campus of the University of Rhode Island. In addition to a living room, dining room, laundry room and activity room, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/iep\/living-learning-community\/\">IEP House<\/a>&nbsp;has single and double dormitory style rooms on three floors. Shared men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s bathrooms are on the first and second floor.&nbsp;The main floor features a large living room where comfortable high back chairs and plush sofas surround the fireplace, while another section provides for large conference tables and excellent lighting for daytime and late-night study sessions in Chinese.&nbsp;Chef Mark Schoenweiss prepares three meals per day Monday through Saturday with the exception of dinner on Saturday throughout the program.&nbsp;Parking is available next to the house.<\/p>\n<h3>Cost<\/h3>\n<p>The Chinese Flagship Immersion Program is generously supported by the University of Rhode Island. The total cost of the program is outlined below based on the residency status of the student. The estimated cost of the 2026 program includes tuition and fees, room and board during the week, and the mid-program excursion. Textbooks, as well as transportation to\/from the program location, are not included in the estimate. A link will be sent out to students who complete the initial program application.<\/li>\n<li>Financial Aid: Pell-eligible students who receive a URI Summer Completion Grant should check with enrollment services to reduce some of the tuition fees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Who is Eligible?<\/h3>\n<p>CHN 211\/212: Graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students at URI or other institutions who have taken a minimum of one year of college-level Chinese or equivalent, and whose proficiency is at the Novice High or Intermediate Low level, are encouraged to apply. Priority consideration is granted to students currently enrolled in or admitted to any Chinese Flagship Program.
