The program\u2019s goal is to help get you to a professional level of proficiency (superior)&nbsp;on the&nbsp;<a title=\"ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines\" href=\"https:\/\/www.actfl.org\/publications\/guidelines-and-manuals\/actfl-proficiency-guidelines-2012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) scale<\/a>&nbsp;(or 3 on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.govtilr.org\/skills\/ILRscale1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interagency Language Roundtable<\/a>, ILR), which is the national standard for measuring language skill level. Your advancement in the program is not only based on credits, but also on your performance on regular proficiency assessments in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"button-list\" style=\"width: 300px;float: right;margin-left: 40px\"><a class=\"cl-button   prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chineseflagship\/academics\/proficiency-scale\/\" title=\"\">Proficiency Standards<\/a><\/div>\n<p>The Chinese Flagship Program offers resources to help students achieve a superior level of proficiency. Flagship Chinese courses meet five days per week rather than the typical three-day per week schedule, and all Flagship students are matched with a native Chinese tutor from a similar academic discipline to help them acquire the discourse appropriate for their field of study.<\/p>\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  \"><p>In order to successfully complete the program, Flagship scholars generally must:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Double major in Chinese and another one of URI&#8217;s 80 majors<\/li>\n<li>Take at least one Chinese class per semester (Flagship classes meet every weekday for 50 minutes)<\/li>\n<li>Attend four tutoring sessions per week&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Attend a short-term domestic summer immersion program<\/li>\n<li>Study abroad<\/li>\n<li>Attend a short-term immersion program in mainland China or Taiwan<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the Capstone Year abroad During Capstone, taking classes alongside Chinese students and serving on a professional internship.<\/li>\n<li>Reach advanced high\/superior language proficiency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chinese Language Flagship Program Overview The Chinese Flagship Program is a proficiency-based language learning program.
