{"id":10010,"date":"2022-07-11T14:29:48","date_gmt":"2022-07-11T18:29:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/?p=10010"},"modified":"2022-07-11T14:29:50","modified_gmt":"2022-07-11T18:29:50","slug":"uri-kinesiology-chair-professor-elected-to-national-strength-and-conditional-association-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/2022\/07\/11\/uri-kinesiology-chair-professor-elected-to-national-strength-and-conditional-association-board\/","title":{"rendered":"URI Kinesiology Chair, professor elected to National Strength and Conditional Association board"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Associate Professor and Chair of the URI Department of Kinesiology <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/kinesiology\/meet\/disa-hatfield\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Disa Hatfield<\/a> has been elected to the board of directors of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsca.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Strength and Conditioning Association<\/a> (NSCA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hatfield is certified by the NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction and has served on the NSCA\u2019s Education Committee, Research Committee and Nomination Committee, as well as an Associate Editor for the<em> Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research<\/em>. Her research is multidisciplinary and focuses on strength and conditioning, athletic performance, nutrition and supplementation, perception of exercise, exercise endocrinology and non-nutritional ergogenic aids. Dr. Hatfield\u2019s 60-plus published research articles and numerous book chapters emphasize how these factors interact and are affected by resistance training and exercise across the lifespan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, Dr. Hatfield worked both as a strength and conditioning coach and as a personal trainer in the private sector. She is formerly a 3-time U.S.A.P.L. National Champion Powerlifter, I.O.C. World Games athlete, two-time American Bench Press record holder and former head coach for the Men\u2019s Pan American Powerlifting team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1978, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is a nonprofit association dedicated to advancing the strength and conditioning and related sport science professions around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NSCA exists to empower a community of professionals to maximize their impact through disseminating evidence-based knowledge and its practical application by offering industry-leading certifications, research journals, career development services, networking opportunities, and continuing education.
