{"id":6220,"date":"2019-04-18T15:46:11","date_gmt":"2019-04-18T19:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/?p=6220"},"modified":"2019-04-18T15:46:11","modified_gmt":"2019-04-18T19:46:11","slug":"childhood-development-center-marks-week-of-the-young-child-with-community-service-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/2019\/04\/18\/childhood-development-center-marks-week-of-the-young-child-with-community-service-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Childhood Development Center marks &#8216;Week of the Young Child&#8217; with community service project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Preschoolers collect food donations for Jonnycake Center<\/h4>\n<p><u><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/child-development-centers\/kingston-cdc\/\">URI\u2019s Childhood Development Center<\/a><\/u> (CDC) within the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College of Health Sciences<\/a> celebrated Week of the Young Child along with the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.naeyc.org\/\">National Association for the Education of Young Children<\/a><\/u> (NAEYC) last week, working with preschoolers to perform service in the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an annual celebration of early learning, young children, their teachers, and families,\u201d said Jessica MacLeod, director of URI\u2019s CDC. In recognition of the celebration, Gov. Gina Raimondo officially declared April 8-12, 2019 as Week of the Young Child in Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC houses two NAEYC-accredited laboratory preschools where events were held to celebrate the week. On &#8220;Work Together Wednesday&#8221; the preschoolers at the CDC packaged up food donations for delivery to the Jonnycake Center. The CDC collaborated in an outreach effort with neighbors across the street at St. Augustine&#8217;s church and across the parking lot at the URI Transition Center.
