{"id":9231,"date":"2021-03-09T15:21:57","date_gmt":"2021-03-09T20:21:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/?p=9231"},"modified":"2021-03-09T15:21:59","modified_gmt":"2021-03-09T20:21:59","slug":"college-of-health-sciences-students-earn-research-innovation-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/2021\/03\/09\/college-of-health-sciences-students-earn-research-innovation-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"College of Health Sciences students earn Research &amp; Innovation grants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Five students in the College of Health Sciences will engage in impactful research projects after receiving funding for their studies from the URI Office of Undergraduate Research &amp; Innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students are among 62 from across the university selected to receive funding to work on their independent projects, mentored by 37 faculty members. In addition to grants ranging from $600 to $1,400 per project, the students also gained valuable knowledge to help them in future research projects. The students learned to write a grant proposal, create a project budget and work with a faculty mentor on an original project. Proposals were evaluated by a faculty review panel for funding decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following College of Health Sciences students, along with their faculty mentors, received funding for these projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Greta DelBonis<\/strong> and <strong>Sarah DelBonis<\/strong>, Psychology; faculty mentor, Nicole Weiss \u2014 Sexual Violence and Risky\/Reckless Behavior Across College and Community Samples of Women.<\/li><li><strong>Jessica Nicole Williams<\/strong>, Psychology; faculty mentor, Nichea Spillane \u2014 Racial and Ethnic Differences in the Association Between Socioeconomic Status and Alcohol Use.<\/li><li><strong>Kara Manuelli<\/strong>, Human Development and Family Studies; faculty mentor, Sue Adams \u2014 Promoting Social-Emotional Learning and Development in Preschoolers: An Observational Study of Separation Anxiety at the URI Child Development Centers.<\/li><li><strong>Brett Gould<\/strong>, Psychology; faculty mentor, Nichea Spillane \u2014 Impulsivity and Alcohol Use: The Role of Hedonic Capacity.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five students in the College of Health Sciences will engage in impactful research projects after receiving funding for their studies from the URI Office of Undergraduate Research &amp; Innovation.
