{"id":9692,"date":"2022-02-09T14:14:03","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T19:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/?p=9692"},"modified":"2023-08-16T10:35:18","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T14:35:18","slug":"uri-college-of-health-sciences-dean-appointed-editor-in-chief-of-national-sports-medicine-journal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/2022\/02\/09\/uri-college-of-health-sciences-dean-appointed-editor-in-chief-of-national-sports-medicine-journal\/","title":{"rendered":"URI College of Health Sciences dean appointed    editor-in-chief of national sports medicine journal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gary Liguori will launch and direct ACSM\u2019s \u2018Exercise, Sport, and Movement\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>University of Rhode Island College of Health Sciences <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chs\/meet\/gary-liguori\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dean Gary Liguori<\/a> has been appointed the inaugural editor-in-chief of <em>Exercise, Sport, and Movement<\/em> (<em>ESM<\/em>), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acsm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American College of Sports Medicine\u2019s<\/a> new open access journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to serving as dean of the College, Liguori is a professor of kinesiology and has led several national and global boards and councils, including ACSM\u2019s Publications Committee and Committee on Certification and Registry Boards, and as a mentor in the ACSM Leadership &amp; Diversity Training program. He has edited several books, including the first edition of <em>ACSM\u2019s<\/em> <em>Health Fitness Specialist Resource Guide<\/em>, the fifth edition of the <em>ACSM\u2019s Health-Related Fitness Assessment Manual<\/em>, and the 11<sup>th<\/sup> edition of <em>ACSM\u2019s<\/em> <em>Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription<\/em>. In addition, Dr. Liguori has been an editorial board member, column editor, and most recently the Associate Editor-in-Chief of <em>ACSM\u2019s<\/em> <em>Health and Fitness Journal.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>ESM<\/em> represents an exciting opportunity for ACSM in the realm of open-access journals,\u201d Liguori said. \u201cBeing chosen to launch this journal from scratch is a true honor, and we are well poised to create an outstanding journal. <em>ESM<\/em> will be broad in its scope, but will absolutely uphold the well-deserved reputation for outstanding science that has been established by existing ACSM journals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>ESM<\/em> is an international open access, peer-reviewed journal focusing on all aspects of exercise science and sports medicine. The scope of the journal is broad, encompassing scientific, clinical, public health, community and policy topics in all areas related to sports and exercise medicine, exercise-related physiology, nutrition, metabolism and physical fitness.
