Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The accelerated Bachelor\u2019s\u00a0to\u00a0Master\u2019s degree in speech-language pathology offers qualified, focused students the opportunity to\u00a0complete both the B.S. in Communicative Disorders and the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology in five years (rather than six). Admission to the program is highly competitive, but if you are selected, you&#8217;ll begin earning graduate credits during your senior year, allowing you to save a\u00a0year of tuition and enter\u00a0the job market sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-tabs-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-tabs  \">\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Is this program for you?<\/h1>\n\n<p>If you can answer &#8220;yes&#8221; to the&nbsp;following&nbsp;questions,&nbsp;you could be a&nbsp;candidate&nbsp;for the accelerated program:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are you (or will you be) an undergraduate major in Communicative Disorders at URI?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have an early commitment to this major and profession?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have the capacity and motivation to generate a very high grade point average?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have the emotional maturity to manage high\u00a0demands and stress?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have an ability and interest to learn using synthetic and problem solving approaches?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are you willing to forego using elective credits outside the major area?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Application Process<\/h1>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact your\u00a0advisor as early as possible (ideally in your first year) to determine\u00a0your\u00a0suitability for the program.\u00a0Standards for admission are high, so this is an important first step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are\u00a0an appropriate candidate, you&#8217;ll construct a program of study with your advisor, to complete\u00a0all general education requirements and courses within the major by the end of your\u00a0junior year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the first semester of your junior year, you will\u00a0apply to the graduate program for admission in the following semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prior to entering the graduate program (in your senior year),\u00a0you\u00a0should have no fewer than 24 credits remaining to receive a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cmd\/academics\/b-s-program\/curriculum\/\">B.S. in Communicative Disorders<\/a>. You should have no\u00a0more than 30 credits remaining.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your application to\u00a0the accelerated program will be reviewed for admission along with\u00a0all other graduate program applicants\u2014there is no separate applicant pool for the accelerated program.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Admission Requirements<\/h1>\n\n<p>GREs\/MATs are not required for ANY applicants. URI sixth-semester standing in communicative disorders with all major requirements completed and 24 elective credits remaining. This is a competitive program and admission is not guaranteed. A minimum (but higher to be competitive) cumulative grade point of average of 3.00 overall and 3.20 in the major is required for consideration. Two letters of recommendation from URI communicative disorders faculty are also needed. Students should indicate their intent to apply to the accelerated program in the graduate application materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This accelerated program is not available to non-URI undergraduates or part-time graduate students. Students accepted to the ABM program will follow a specified sequence of graduate-level course work and clinical practicum during their senior year, and complete the master\u2019s degree with an additional one year and one summer of full-time study in speech-language pathology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>URI undergraduate communicative disorders majors who have met requirements for early acceptance in the graduate program in speech-language pathology, which includes successful application to the program, may follow a special sequence of graduate-level course work and clinical practicum during their senior year (see <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/catalog\/communicative-disorders\/\">Communicative Disorders<\/a> in the undergraduate section of this catalog for more information). If eligible, following the award of the Bachelor of Science degree in communicative disorders, students may complete a 30-credit master\u2019s degree (rather than the usual 54-credit master\u2019s degree) in speech-language pathology in one year plus a summer of full-time graduate study.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Program Requirements<\/h1>\n\n<p>Speech-language pathology students must take 24 specified graduate credits (at the 400 or 500 level) of communicative disorders course work in the senior year to complete the bachelor\u2019s degree in communicative disorders; 30 credits of course work in the fifth year (postbaccalaureate) at the 400 or 500 level.
