The core constructs, around which the other dimensions are organized, is the <a title=\"Transtheoretical Model: Stages of Change\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cprc\/transtheoretical-model\/stages-of-change\/\"><strong>stages of change<\/strong>.<\/a> These represent ordered categories along a continuum of motivational readiness to change a problem behavior. Transitions between the stages of change are effected by a set of independent variables known as the <a title=\"Transtheoretical Model: Processes of Change\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cprc\/transtheoretical-model\/processes-of-change\/\"><strong>processes of change<\/strong><\/a>. The model also incorporates a series of intervening or outcome variables. These include <a title=\"Transtheoretical Model: Decisional Balance\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cprc\/transtheoretical-model\/decisional-balance\/\"><strong>decisional balance<\/strong><\/a> (the pros and cons of change),&nbsp;<a title=\"Transtheoretical Model: Self-Efficacy \/ Situational Temptations\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cprc\/transtheoretical-model-self-efficacy-situational-temptations\/\"><strong>self-efficacy<\/strong> <\/a>(confidence in the ability to change across problem situations), situational temptations to engage in the problem behavior, and behaviors which are specific to the problem area.
