A Master\u2019s degree is encouraged but not required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Common requirements include coursework covering the material in the following courses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MTH 141 \u2013 Calculus 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MTH 142 \u2013 Calculus 2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MTH 215 \u2013 Introduction to Linear Algebra<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One course in Mathematics or Statistics for which calculus is a prerequisite<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>GRE is no longer required for admission in all our graduate programs. In addition, international applicants will need to report their English proficiency tests such as TOEFL and IELTS. Waivers can be granted at the discretion of the graduate director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Specific Prerequisites for Computer Science Concentration<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the general requirements applicants with a bachelor&#8217;s degree in an unrelated field will be considered provided they have completed course work covering the material in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CSC 212 Data Structures and Abstractions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSC 411 Computer Organization\u00a0<strong>OR<\/strong>\u00a0CSC 412 Operating System and Networks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSC 440 Design and Analysis of Algorithms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Specific Prerequisites for Statistics Concentration<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the general requirements, the following courses or their equivalents (will need approval from the graduate program chair) may be required to be admitted to our program if a student lacks a strong quantitative background. However, these requirements may be waived based on prior experience in industry or research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MTH 243 \u2013 Calculus for Functions of Several Variables<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STA 409 \u2013 Statistical Methods in Research I<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STA 412 \u2013 Statistical Methods in Research II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MTH 451 \u2013 Introduction to Probability and Statistics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MTH 452 &#8211; Mathematical Statistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb 15<\/strong> &#8212; application deadline for the Fall semester if the applicant wants to be considered for financial assistance such as TA\/RA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May 15<\/strong> &#8211; application deadline for Fall semester (no considerations for financial aid are given)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nov 15<\/strong> &#8211; application deadline for Spring semester (no considerations for financial aid are given)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"type-intro fullwidth\"><strong>If you were admitted to the Ph.D. in Computer Science program in Spring 2023 or earlier you can choose between the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cs\/ph-d-in-computer-science-pre-2023\/\">previous curriculum<\/a> and the current one.
