Sometimes, preferences can feel necessary, though DAI may not be able to approve them as medically necessary accommodations if they do not meet our eligibility criteria.  Students should expect to navigate shared spaces, roommate dynamics, noise, smells, and distractions. That&#8217;s part of living in a community, and we have amazing HRL staff who can meet with students, help design roommate contracts, and assist with communication and conflict resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Preferences <strong><em>are not<\/em><\/strong> medically necessary for equal access to housing, and therefore do not qualify as disability accommodations. <\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  fullwidth\"><h1>Planning Ahead for Access<\/h1>\n\n<p>About <strong>33%<\/strong> of first-year students are placed in a triple (students living in a room with two additional roommates) based on HRL policy and procedures. Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/housing\/housing-options\/?_sft_category=first-year-housing\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/housing\/housing-options\/?_sft_category=first-year-housing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>HRL website<\/strong><\/a> to view the housing options for first-year students to understand where HRL typically places students like you. Medically necessary requests for housing accommodations must be submitted to DAI by the deadline of May 15, 2026. However, connecting with DAI early allows us to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review your specific situation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine appropriate supports or accommodations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coordinate with Housing &amp; Residential Life when needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center fullwidth\">Early communication helps ensure that the right spaces are considered, campus partners have time to make a plan, and your access needs are supported as effectively as possible.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" times<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Override of housing procedures<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:40%\"><section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  \"><h1>Deadlines Matter!<\/h1>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">All incoming and current URI students are the sole responsible party for meeting all deadlines published by the university without exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center fullwidth type-intro\">DAI cannot excuse or override any URI procedures or deadlines under any circumstances.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-notice-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-notice urgent  \" data-hash=\"7d8c53c793e2c59552e477e69a8702f7\">\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Documentation submission and a housing consultation meeting must occur before May 15, class=\"fullwidth\">Dining on campus is an important part of the college experience, and URI Dining Services works with students to support a range of dietary needs, including food allergies, Students must engage in DAI&#8217;s three-step interactive process.
