As you transition to college, your support network of parents, caregivers, and others continues to play an important role in your success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their role may look different from what it did previously, but their support, encouragement, and perspective<\/em> remain valuable as you build confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At URI, the goal is not to remove support; it\u2019s to shift how support shows up<\/strong>, so that you can lead your experience, with others supporting you along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In high school, support is often built in and coordinated<\/strong>.
In college, it is available<\/strong>, but access is granted if student-initiated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instruction often includes built-in scaffolding and frequent progress monitoring<\/td>Courses emphasize independent learning and critical thinking<\/td><\/tr>
Teachers guide both the content and the learning process<\/td>Professors are subject-matter experts<\/td><\/tr>
Family involvement is coordinated<\/td>Communication is student-led<\/td><\/tr>
Supports are often coordinated automatically<\/td>Students must independently access campus resources<\/td><\/tr>
Regular reminders and oversight are common<\/td>Students manage their own schedules, deadlines, and appointments<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Accessing Campus Resources<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Resources are available and ready to help, but they are not automatically activated.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistive technology support
Counseling and mental health support
Medical and Pharmacy services
