{"id":596,"date":"2024-02-29T13:48:26","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T18:48:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ecbe-draft\/?page_id=596"},"modified":"2024-04-17T09:55:55","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T13:55:55","slug":"program-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ecbe\/academics\/electrical-engineering-m-s\/program-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electrical Engineering M.S.<\/h1>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-menu-wrapper\"><nav id=\"\" class=\"cl-menu  \" data-name=\"Electrical M.S.\" data-show-title=\"0\"><ul id=\"menu-electrical-m-s\" class=\"cl-menu-list cl-menu-list-no-js\"><li id=\"menu-item-601\" class=\"menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-601\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ecbe\/academics\/electrical-engineering-m-s\/\">Overview<\/a><\/li>\n<li id=\"menu-item-602\" class=\"menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-602\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ecbe\/academics\/electrical-engineering-m-s\/admission\/\">Admission<\/a><\/li>\n<li id=\"menu-item-604\" class=\"menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-604\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ecbe\/academics\/electrical-engineering-m-s\/program-requirements\/\">Program Requirements<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/nav><\/section>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The requirements for the M.S. program in Electrical Engineering are structured as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Credit Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You must complete a minimum of 30 credits, which include engineering mathematics and\/or science courses.<\/li><li>At least 16 credits must be from formal graduate electrical engineering (ELE) courses, excluding ELE 601 and ELE 602 (departmental seminars).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Restrictions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A maximum of 12 credits can be taken from senior undergraduate (400-level) courses in engineering, mathematics and\/or science.<\/li><li>Up to three credits can be from special problems or independent study courses (ELE 591\/592\/691\/692).<\/li><li>All full-time graduate students are required to enroll in the departmental seminar ELE 601 every semester it is offered.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thesis and Non-Thesis Options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Thesis Option: Involves 6-9 credits of thesis research (ELE 599), where six credits are standard. More than six credits require approval from your thesis committee and the Graduate Director\/Department Chair.<\/li><li>Non-Thesis Option: You must complete a Master\u2019s Project (ELE 598).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Academic Standards:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A grade of B- or higher is required for any 400-level course.<\/li><li>A grade of C or higher is required for 500- and 600-level courses.<\/li><li>You must be enrolled in at least 1 credit during your graduation semester.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program of Study:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This form, specifying your major professor and course plan, should be submitted no later than the end of the 2nd semester for full-time students and the 3rd semester for part-time students. The form can be revised but must match the courses on your transcript.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thesis Defense (for the Thesis Option)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A thesis committee must be established, and a Thesis Proposal must be submitted during the 1st or 2nd semester of research credits.
