Economics"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-tabs-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-tabs  \"><section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Overview<\/h1><\/p>\n<h3>The B.S. in Economics<\/h3>\n<p>For the B.S. degree, you may choose one of two options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Applied Economics:<\/strong> Designed for students who are interested in a somewhat more quantitative approach to the field with, perhaps, the goal of gaining a position that requires a working knowledge of economic analysis. A basic knowledge of calculus is required for the B.S. in Applied Economics.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Economic Theory and Methods:<\/strong> Recommended for students preparing for graduate study in economics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A total of 120 credits is required for graduation. In addition, students must have a G.P.A. of at least 2.00 overall and 2.00 in their major to graduate. Students must achieve a minimum grade of C in both Ecn 201 and Ecn 202 or attain the permission of the department chair before majoring in economics.<br><\/section><section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1> BS Applied Curriculum<\/h1><\/p>\n<p>The Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Economics is designed for students who are interested in a somewhat more quantitative approach to the field with, perhaps, the goal of gaining a position that requires a working knowledge of economic analysis.&nbsp; A basic knowledge of calculus is required for the B.S. in Applied Economics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Curriculum<\/strong><br>This option requires a minimum of 31 credits in Economics including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ECN 201, 202, 305, 306, 327 (or 323), 328 (or 324), 376, 445, and at least two additional ECN courses numbered 300 or above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, students must complete:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BUS 210 or MTH 451 or STA 308 or STA 309<\/li>\n<li>MTH 131 or MTH 141 with a grade of C or higher <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">before<\/span> taking ECN 375<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/advising\/economics-b-a-b-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Download the B.S. Applied Curriculum Sheet (entry year 2016 or later)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><\/section><section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1> BS Theory &amp; Methods Curriculum<\/h1><\/p>\n<p><strong>ECONOMIC THEORY AND METHODS<\/strong><br>The B.S. in Economic Theory and Methods includes in-depth coursework in the Department of Mathematics.&nbsp; In addition to 31 credits in Economics, students must complete six prescribed courses in Mathematics.&nbsp; Although anyone desiring a program with intensive quantitative rigor may choose this major, it is particularly recommended for students planning graduate work in economics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Curriculum<\/strong><br>This option requires a minimum of 31 credits in Economics including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ECN 201, 202, 305, 327, 328, 376, 445 and at least three additional ECN courses numbered 300 or above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition students must complete:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MTH 141, 142, 215, 243, 307, and 244 or 442 or 435<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A total of 120 credits is required for graduation.
