Desposito &#8217;73, &#8217;77, the Aspiring Teacher Scholarship is awarded annually to student(s) admitted to the College of Education who demonstrate leadership, passion to teach middle level students,\u00a0and best\u00a0exemplify the many talents of &#8220;Mr. D.&#8221;\u00a0(as outlined below). The recipient is selected by the University&#8217;s College of Education faculty.<\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p>Undergraduate or Master&#8217;s\/Teacher Certification (MA\/TCP) students\u00a0at the University of Rhode Island who have been admitted to the College of Education, and\u00a0plan to student teach in a middle school, are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n<h3>Selection Criteria<\/h3>\n<p>Selection is based on the following characteristics, which Mr. Desposito demonstrated in\u00a0his career as a Rhode Island middle level teacher, principal, teacher leader, and\u00a0URI\u00a0teacher educator:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>dedication to teaching all students;<\/li>\n<li>compassion for individuals;<\/li>\n<li>enthusiasm to teach adolescents;<\/li>\n<li>strong written and oral\u00a0communication skills;<\/li>\n<li>ability to work well with colleagues; and<\/li>\n<li>strengths as a mentor,\u00a0team member or coach to others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Application process<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Write an applicant statement that describes and provides evidence of each of the\u00a0above attributes. Be sure to highlight why you are especially interested in\u00a0teaching middle level students.
