Prospective students interested in a doctoral degree in education can learn about the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/education\/academics\/ph-d\/\">new URI Ph.D. program in Education<\/a> which will begin in fall 2024.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/section>\n<h2>Curriculum<\/h2>\n<h3>Core Seminars<\/h3>\n<p>During Years One\u2013Three in the program, students take year-long Core Seminars with other members of their cohort following the same course sequence.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Year One\u2014EDP 610-611&nbsp;Educational Inquiry and Foundations<\/li>\n<li>Year Two \u2014EDP 620-621 Human Development, Learning and Teaching<\/li>\n<li>Year Three\u2014EDP 630-631 Organizational Theory, Leadership, and Policy Analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Research Methods<\/h3>\n<p>The following three research methods courses are required. Students may supply these courses with more advanced work in research methods applicable to their&nbsp;specialization area and dissertation topic.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EDP 612 Qualitative Analysis in Educational Research<\/li>\n<li>EDP 613 Quantitative Analysis in Educational Research with an SPSS Lab<\/li>\n<li>EDP 623 Research Design<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Bi-Weekly Field Research Seminars<\/h3>\n<p>Starting in Year Two, students participate in biweekly EDP 641 Field Research Seminars, which&nbsp;include&nbsp;members from the 2nd-year and 3rd-year cohorts. Co-taught by professors from URI and RIC, these seminars provide a forum for students to present their evolving research ideas, questions, and methodologies. Feedback and discussion help to develop each presenter\u2019s research ideas\u2014en route to the dissertation\u2013while &nbsp;sharpening the research tools of other members of the seminar.<\/p>\n<p>In Year Two, students also enroll in EDP 622&nbsp;Community Service and Service Learning, dealing&nbsp;with the larger networks of human services and support in which public education is embedded.
