Dyslexia Association, <em>Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading<\/em> (2018)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Literacy Association, <em>Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals<\/em> (2017)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Council for Exceptional Children, <em>Advanced Special Education Preparation Standards<\/em> (2015)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), <em>Standards for Teachers<\/em><br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><h3>Students will learn to:<\/h3><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Understand the origins and characteristics of dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities (LBLD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diagnose dyslexia and other LBLD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a diagnostic and prescriptive approach to assessment and instruction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gain advanced knowledge of language, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, etymology, orthography, including syllable types and division patterns, semantics, syntax, discourse, and pragmatics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a multi-sensory, structured literacy approach for lower-level (phonics including sound symbol associations, phonemic awareness, spelling, word recognition, fluency, and handwriting) and higher-level (vocabulary, comprehension, syntax and written expression) language and literacy skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individualize instruction to each student\u2019s specific needs, including executive functioning, working memory, and other learning issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use Orton-Gillingham principles to inform instruction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teach with technology to engage
